Javier Cabello Piñar

Estudié en la Universidad de Granada. Soy Licenciado y Doctor en Ciencias Biológicas. Tras algunos años impartiendo clase en Educación Secundaria, la mayor parte de mi carrera profesional ha sido como profesor de la Universidad de Almería, donde me formé como investigador en Botánica y Ecología.  He sido también profesor en cursos y másteres de la Universidad de Granada y la Universidad Internacional de Andalucía. En el ámbito de la asesoría vengo colaborando con el Ministerio de Transición Ecológica desde hace más de 10 años en el Proceso Biogeográfico de la Directiva de Hábitats en Europa, y en el desarrollo de de un sistema de seguimiento basado en teledetección de la Red Española de Parques Nacionales. A nivel regional (Andalucía) formo parte del Consejo de Participación del Espacio Natural de Sierra Nevada y el Consejo de Biodiversidad de la provincia de Almería. 

Desde 2022 soy Catedrático de Biodiversidad y Ecosistemas en la Universidad de Almería. Imparto clases en la Universidad de Almería de Cambio Global y Sistemas Socioecológicos y Conservación y Gestión de Especies en el Grado en Ciencias Ambientales, de Métodos para el Seguimiento de la Biodiversidad en el Máster en Uso Sostenible de Recursos Naturales y Servicios Ecosistémicos. Además soy profesor de Funciones y Servicios de los Ecosistemas en el Máster de Conservación, Gestión y Restauración de la Biodiversidad de la Universidad de Granada.

INVESTIGACIÓN

Mi investigación se centra en la evaluación del funcionamiento y los servicios de los ecosistemas, la biodiversidad y los ecosistemas de las zonas áridas y la ecología traslacional. Para ello realizo muestreos de campo (biodiversidad, radiometría y ecofisiología de la vegetación) a escala local, y utilizo técnicas de teledetección y sistemas de información geográfica para los estudios a escala regional o global. También tengo interés en el desarrollo de procesos transdisciplinares para mejorar la interacción entre la ciencia, los gestores, los responsables de la toma de decisiones y la sociedad, en la aplicación de políticas ambientales, en particular las destinadas a la conservación de la biodiversidad. Más recientemente, he incorporado a mi trabajo el análisis de las relaciones entre los ecosistemas y los sistemas humanos.
